The program builds on that general theory with hands-on training in designing, wiring, and troubleshooting systems and circuits for applications such as residential lighting; commercial fire alarm, building automation, and security systems; and motor control circuits. Skills gained include wiring and termination techniques for switches and outlets, computer network and coaxial wiring, residential wiring, proper use of electrical testers, reading blueprints, basic knowledge of electrical codes, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements. Upon completion, graduates will also be able to use their knowledge and skills in an entry-level electrician apprenticeship (apprenticeship requirements vary by state and locality).
