DescriptionAbout this Learning Opportunity
Participants develop their basic skills, Mathematics, reading and writing, contextually acquiring critical Employability Skills following the College Career to gain, advance in, and retain employment; enter occupational of higher levels of training. State-of-the-art computer software complement individualized classroom instruction. Participants attend AWEP sites to apply what they are learning and acquire employability skills. Our contextual learning techniques ensure that participants also acquire the necessary Life Skills and Basic Skills to succeed; it incorporates and is correlated to the CCR English Language Arts and Literacy Standards, as well as to the NRS Educational Functioning Level Standards. Participants receive counseling to overcome any barriers they may have that are impacting their ability to succeed. Our job-coaching model provides targeted reinforcement to assist participants in the transition to employment. Upon completion of training, Employment Specialists create Self-Directed Job Search Teams, coaching participants through the job seeking process. Using the job coach model, the employment specialist will contact the participant during the first 120 days of employment to provide additional coaching and support, including, if required, additional job development activities.
