DescriptionAbout this Learning Opportunity
This training course will give an already CNA , CHHA, or PCA the knowledge they require to assist residents with self administration of medication, in their unit of use, or unit dose medication distribution system, under the supervision of a professional registered nurse. To be New Jersey state certified as a CMA, the student must successfully complete a required 30 hour course to include a minimum of 3 directly supervised medication passes prior to the state written exam. The cma administers medication in assisted living residence, comprehensive personal care homes and assisted living programs. Upon completion of this program, the CMA will be able to identify, Medication terminology and abbreviation classes of medication, recognize medication purposes and effects, pharmacy container or package labels, use medication administration records (MAR), Demonstrate the 5 rights of medication administration, organize to administer medication to one or more residence, measure and record vital signs prior to medication administration as required, administer oral medication correctly, Report and document a resident refusal to take medication, document medication errors, dispose of medications, store and secure all medications, maintain an inventory of medications, Administration of medication via gastronomy, diabetes medication, eye, ear, nasal, topical, vagina, rectal and inhalation medications.
