DescriptionAbout this Learning Opportunity
This course will provide you with an overview of basic EKG, phlebotomy and medical assisting knowledge and skills. Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, laws, asepsis and infection control and HIPPA compliance are covered. The Electrocardiogram Technician portion of the training focuses on the proper placement of electrocardiogram (EKG) leads and maintenance of equipment to obtain an accurate 12-lead EKG. Additional, learning to recognize cardiac arrhythmias, including Brady, Junctional, Tachy and heart block will be stressed. The phlebotomy technician portion of the training focuses on the proper techniques and different types of blood draws including; venipuncture, capillary and syringe method. The combination of these programs along with vital signs and laboratory safety provide; hands on laboratory skills necessary to be an asset in many different clinical environments, as well as the academic knowledge to challenge for the national certification exam sponsored by NHA. With NHA certification in both discipline and practical experience students will be qualified for many job titles including patient-care technician, medical assistant, multi-skilled technician, cardio-vascular technician, in additional to a phlebotomy technician and Electrocardiogram Technician.
